On a high-end car it is easy to find leather seats. However, this refined option is now available for all types of cars, even the least expensive ones. Let's see the pros and cons to make the right choice.
The advantages of leather car seats
- A wide choice . If you are focusing on leather for the seats of your car, the choice of fabric is wide: semi-leather, imitation leather, real leather, nappa leather or fabric / leather mix. There is really plenty of choice.
- The long service life . Leather car seats are extremely durable and with minimal maintenance, they last a really long time.
- Easy to clean . Keeping a leather seat clean is simple: just a vacuum cleaner and a wet cloth. In addition, if the color is not very light, the fabric is practically stain resistant.
- Equipped with heating and / or cooling systems . This device, thanks to the perforated fabric, is able to limit the inconveniences due to the temperature changes that the leather seat carries with it.
The disadvantages of leather car seats
- We must pay attention to it . Especially if you choose genuine leather which is very delicate, you have to be careful not to scratch it with abrasive fabrics, studs or zippers.
- Needs maintenance . Again, maintenance is a more complicated feature if you choose genuine leather. There are special products to be wiped with a microfiber cloth to maintain the luster and softness of the leather.
- The cost . Depending on the type of skin chosen, the cost varies between € 600 and € 1,000. In some cases it can even reach € 2,000 or € 3,000.
- Sensitivity to temperature . The disadvantage, perhaps most annoying, of leather seats is the reaction to the change in temperature. In the winter the seat is frozen, while in the summer it is on the verge of burning. Also, traveling with bare legs it is very easy to get stuck. However, these problems are limited by the seat heating and cooling devices.
The alternatives
For those who do not want to pay for leather seats, or prefer comfort over beauty, the classic fabric seat is the best choice.
Those who are not willing to give up both features, the seats in mixed leather and fabric are a good compromise, as well as being practical and resistant.
